Embedding EDI&B into the recruitment process

Recruitment is a typical starting point on the equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging journey. Many organizations struggle to access qualified, diverse candidates. The lack of diversity in their candidate pipeline translates to a lack of diversity within their organization.

As a starting point, organizations must assess where the lack of diversity stems from. Often recruiters do not reach certain groups at all. To counteract this, employers can partner with service providing organizations that advertise jobs to qualified candidates they might not typically have access to.

Other times, bias in the hiring and interview process filters out candidates from designated groups. To correct for bias, interviews can be standardized for inclusion. Employers should ensure there is diversity amongst the hiring panel to support a balanced decision.

Below are resources to support the recruitment process with a diversity and inclusion lens.
