Keep aware of policy and laws

In Canada, we have several pieces of legislation designed to support human rights, maintain employment standards, and provide equal opportunity for all Canadians.

Government policy sets the standards for most business operations and there are a number of regulations that directly relate to diversity and inclusion by their aim to protect designated groups. For instance, businesses in federally regulated industries, like banks and crown corporations, are required to report on employment equity data. That means reporting on the number of people from each designated group they have on staff and what their strategies are for promoting equity within their workforce.

Being aware of the current policies and legislation, as well as which mandates your organization falls under, will keep your business in compliance.
